Review: 5.11 LV18 Backpack
If there was ever a tactical brand you could trust – it’s 5.11. Their history begins when the FBI training academy adopted their original 5.11 pant in 1992, which then turned into a decades-long commitment to developing even more high-quality tactical equipment. Today, they have expanded their brand to include both fitness and outdoor products which are just as dependable as their tactical gear. The 5.11 LV18 backpack is perfect for any and all of these categories.
The LV18 backpack has a low-vis exterior with tuckable logos which are perfect if you’re practicing a grey-man lifestyle or simply want to blend into your surroundings. The interior, however, features a high-vis grey nylon which helps with visibility in low-light conditions. Each interior pocket is lined with this same 840D nylon so you can ensure you’ll never be scrambling and searching for a tool or any other item.
On the front of the bag you’ll find a MOLLE/admin pocket and there is webbing to easily clip smaller items which require quick access. Each pocket and compartment of the 5.11 LV18 is sealed with renowned YKK zippers, so you can count on quality and durability.
The next of the bag’s three main compartment is in the centre of the backpack – ideal for medium-sized items that you don’t want in the larger main compartment. This pocket is perfect for electronics, chargers, or other items that might require a bit more cushion. This compartment runs the entire length of the backpack so if you happen to have a longer or taller item, it will provide the capacity. The main compartment of the LV18 tactical bag has plenty of room for a jacket, books, maps, and even a 15-inch laptop. There is a separate suspended laptop sleeve that prevents the computer from hitting the ground when you set it down.
On each side of the 5.11 LV18 backpack, you’ll have ambidextrous access to your CCW pocket – the optimal storage place for a flashlight, gloves, handgun, or ammo. Since many CCW pockets tend to be difficult to access, the velcro straps accessible from both sides of the bag make this model truly stand out from the competition. Each side of the backpack also features full-size water bottle pockets – large enough to hold up to a 1.2 litre bottle.
As for comfort? You won’t have to worry about being uncomfortable when wearing this bag for long periods of time. There is a breathable mesh backing with padded shoulder straps as well as an adjustable sternum strap.
